Police corruption is a type of police misconduct in which law enforcement officers seek personal gain, such as money or career advancement, through the abuse of power. Accepting bribes in exchange for not pursuing, or selectively pursuing, an investigation or arrest, for example. There appears to have been a significant increase in police violence around the world in recent years. Of course there are different factors in play that should be taken into consideration, from changing political views to the public having greater access to their governments behind the scenes since the advent of the internet.
While I believe in reporting on truth, I also must add a bit of context to the matter so people reading this article don’t feel as though there are no good police officers in these regions. That just would not be true, at all. 9 times out of 10 your interactions with police in any of the regions below will be what any rational person would consider “good”. How policing differs in other countries outside of America doesn’t make it “bad”. I’ve personally dealt with police in Haiti and Mexico, on multiple occasions. I guess I’ve just been lucky! As you can see I made it out alive and well and able to write all about it.
Quick story… I was stopped a couple times in Haiti, and one time in particular I was driving a friends truck who “somehow” forgot to renew the vehicle’s insurance. My friends all said, unanimously, “you’re American, give him your ID and it will be much easier”. I handed over my license and the cop examined it closely, and in a thick Haitian accent and a very low tone says “America, huh…”. I nodded and he proceeded speaking with my friends in their native tongue. My good friend then turns to me and says; “he’ll take $40”. I paid the officer, started up the truck and pulled off.

Conclusion
The above information will help you play it safe whenever you find yourself in any of the aforementioned countries. Don't forget to uphold the laws and regulations of the land. With that being said, always remember that ultimately outcomes boil down to situations you put yourself in. Even when do so unknowingly. Be vigilant and aware of your surroundings, do your best to avoid situations that may increase your risk of a less than favorable experience.
