Large calves is something many of us desire, as they look great in a pair or shorts, skirt or skinny jeans. Some people are fortunate enough to inherit a nice set of calves, and others, well, let’s just say they’re a work in progress. Before you get started you must understand that there are different shapes of calve muscles, and therefore they won’t all look the same when fully developed. Therefore, if you are aiming for your calves to look exactly like your favorite body builder, you may be disappointed. I’ve been going to the gym for over 20 years now and have a pretty solid understanding on how to build different muscles throughout the body. When it comes to calves I was never blessed with super large calves, however, with enough work I was able to get them nice and round and draw plenty of compliments.
Below are 6 Ways To Build Bigger Calves Without Surgery.
Standing Calve Raises
This is one of my favorite calve building exercise. They can be done with or without weights. I usually do calve raises in-between other calve building exercises. The point is to tire out and assist in breaking down the muscles. This is important because your leg muscles were build to handle a lot of stress. From walking around all day to running a track meet. Therefore it is important to beat them up really good if you want them to grow. My favorite method for calve raises is slightly leaning on a wall, or other stable structure, with one or both hands supporting you. Then tilt forward slightly with one foot raised off the ground and push up from the ball of your feet. Repeat this motion fast or slow, and as many times as you are comfortable. You want to make sure that you can really feel the burn before stopping.
Cycling
One thing that all serious cyclists have in common are nice calve muscles. This is due to the constant stress placed on the calves while riding up and down hills and around corners over long distances. This activity is a prime example of how pushing your calve muscles to the limit will help to build gorgeous calve legs.
Running
Taking time to run at least one mile each day will surely help to pump up your calve muscles. After a good stretch you should also include some Standing Calve Raises before and after your run. Again, it’s all about breaking down your calve muscles. When your muscles tear they rebuild bigger and stronger.
